| Texas Renaissance Festival Nov. 14th, 2015 The Barbarian Invasion |
| After a few false starts I finally made it down to the Renaissance Festival. The day was forecast to be a bit cool and gloomy but it turned into a perfect day. The sky had a few wisps of clouds and the temperature was right at 70 degrees. The crowd was no disappointment either. Plenty of great costumes. In fact it was a much larger crowd than I had expected. | ||
| There were 7 of us total, but we split up pretty quickly. I was with my sister-in-law Julia, my niece Channel, and her cousin Greer. Channel had made some fairy wings for both her and Greer to wear and I'm sure you'll agree that they looked wonderful. It was Greer's first time to go to Ren fest and she seemed to really enjoy it. We did a tour of the whole grounds then caught Tartanic, a seriously energetic bagpipe and drum band. Then we caught the last Dead Bob show of the day. He was as good as ever. We wandered some more then worked our way over to the Arena for the Fire show followed by the Fireworks show. | ||
| A bit about the photos Normally I try to process my photos to pretty closely represent how I remember the scene. I may make a few colors pop, but nothing extreme. I decided to go pretty heavy on the image adjustments on some of these photos. Mainly it is the images of fairies. I bumped up the saturation and then rather than trying to make the pictures crisp and sharp, I turned the clarity down to make the a bit softer. The 2 photos of the Blue Fairy on the second row are probably the strongest examples. This is the first event that I shot entirely in the RAW format. It made a huge difference later when I was processing the photos. I will certainly be shooting more raw stuff in the future. I think shooting raw is what allowed me to get the photos of the fire show. I had the ISO cranked up really high in some of them and was expecting them to be so noisy that they would be essentially useless. Well with some experimenting I finally managed to get some pretty clear shots. I don't think I could have done that with .jpg images. |

And when the video ends, that is my camera stopping it because my card filled up. Not bad timing really. |
