| American Le Mans | ||
| This gallery is called Le Mans, but the actual Le Mans race was on Friday and Saturday. What I got to see was a WEC (World Endurance Challange) race. It was a 6 hour long race with multiple classes of cars running at the same time. So all the cars on the track weren't actually competing with ALL the other cars, just the ones in thier class. As you look through the images you'll see super prototype custom cars as well as modified street cars. The big boys on the track where the prototypes. And among those the two Audi e-tron Quattro R18s were the most impressive. It has a 3.7 liter V6 DIESEL motor with a single turbo charger. BUT it also has a 107 horsepower electric motor on EACH front wheel. This is allowed to kick in at around 75mph and only at certain parts of the track. The car with #2 on it finished a full 23 SECONDS ahead of the second place Toyota, which I believe is also a hybrid car with electric motors on it's front wheels. But a lot of credit has to go to the drivers (each car has 3 drivers I think) Because the Audi with the #1 on it finished 3rd. It sounded like no car I've ever heard. It made a loud "swoosh" sound as it went by and you never heard it change gears. And you could only hear that when it went by alone. If there was any other car anywhere near it's sound would drown out the Audi. Especially the Corvette, which was far and away the loudest car on the track. Speaking of sounds, the Aston Martons where my favorite. They have that same deep throat as the Vette, but it's more tuned. And of course the Ferraris make their own uniquely gorgeous noise too. At the end of the gallery is a 45 second video clip. This is what the track looked and sounded like for 6 full and continues hours. It wont show up if you click threw the gallery photos.
