I didn’t know anything about this temple when my friend put in on our itinerary for the day, but boy am I glad we went there. It was also his first visit here and he suggested we stay here longer instead of going to the other temple on our schedule as he felt it would be a bit anti-climactic after the impressive grounds of Da Xing Shan.

A little research done after coming home informed me that construction on the initial temple was begun in 265 AD, with several expansions and renovations done later under different emperors. It was a fantastic temple with many shrines and places to burn incense offerings. It’s also the first time I encountered prayer wheels. They also had a very nice statue of Jizō Bosatsu, or as he’s known in China, Dìzàng Púsà. He is possibly my favorite Bodhisattva. If you find yourself in Xi’an, don’t miss going here.
